Joseph T. Liberatore joined the firm in 1991. He has concentrated on debtor representation in workouts, bankruptcy reorganizations, tax workouts, and other insolvency-related areas. He has represented numerous businesses, business owners, churches and other entities from the Hampton Roads area over the past 20 years in Chapter 11 reorganizations, and non-bankruptcy workouts. He has represented hundreds of individuals in resolving their financial and tax obligations.

Prior to entering private practice, Joseph served as the judicial clerk for the Honorable Hal J. Bonney, Jr., former judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. He received his Juris Doctorate in 1987 from Regent University School of Law along with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

Joseph gained admission to the Virginia State Bar Association in 1991 and the Oklahoma State Bar Association in 1987 and. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, and the Tidewater Bankruptcy Bar Association. He is admitted to practice before the Virginia Supreme Court, the federal district courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for Eastern District of Virginia; the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Joseph has served as Adjunct Professor at Regent University School of Law over the past 17 years, teaching classes in bankruptcy law as well as the Uniform Commercial Code.

He resides in Chesapeake, Virginia, with his wife, Cheryl, and their three children. He has coached numerous youth sports teams and served as an officer on numerous Boards including serving as Chairman of the Board for StoneBridge School and the Ukraine Children’s Project.
